Introduction

In the normal Pokémon games, certain Pokémon have a complete type advantage over others. For example, ground-based attacks deal zero damage against flying-type Pokémon in the games.

However, in Pokémon Go the playing feel is a bit more level, and Pokémon that are labeled "WEAK" simply have a 0.8 modifier for their total attack and "STRONG" match-ups have a 1.25 modifier for their attack.

To put it another way, Super Effective attacks deal 25% more damage than usual and Not Very Effective attacks deal 20% less damage than usual.

Dual Pokémon Types

Pokémon with two types do impact the modifier and essentially end up multiplying by each other. For example, If an electric attack (Thunderbolt) hits a Water/Flying Pokémon (Gyrados), the modifier would end up as 1.56x - Source
