Mega Pokemon have always been in a weird spot. Due to the way they interact with candy, it is generally more beneficial to use Megas that have the same type as the Pokemon you're fighting instead of using your mega to contribute damage. With Niantic introducing the Super Mega +4 moves for certain Pokemon, this could (and has in some cases) changed, as these moves now allow for some Pokemon to boost their types while also contributing damage.
The current pattern of Super Mega Moves seemingly has two restrictions: *The move must be either of the Pokemon's type. *The move cannot be a legacy move.
